Call for Poster Proposals: ACRL Science and Technology Section (ACRL-STS), ALA Annual Conference, Washington, D.C., 2007.

The ACRL STS Research Committee and STS Program Planning Committee invite proposals for posters to be exhibited during the STS program reception at the ALA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. Posters will be displayed from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 25, 2007, immediately following the STS Program, which starts at 8:30 a.m. Be part of our program of the Science and Technology Section of ACRL and submit your ideas by January 19th.

We encourage proposals for posters relating to the program theme, "Issues and trends in digital repositories of non-textual information: Support for research and teaching."

Posters could describe examples of digital repositories which provide access to non-textual information. Posters may outline a research project or analytical study, describe issues and trends in creating, retaining, and providing access to non-textual information, or illustrate a collaborative project on digital repositories of non-textual information.

Program Presenters:

Frank Cervone, Assistant University Librarian for Information Technology, Northwestern University; Tom Dowling, Assistant Director of Library Systems, Client/Server Applications OhioLINK; and D. Scott Brandt, Assistant Dean for Research, Purdue University Libraries.

Program Description:

Issues and trends in digital repositories of non-textual information: Support for research and teaching.

Scientific research produces vast amounts of data. Historically, libraries have preserved the distillation of that research (the scientific paper), but only infrequently the data upon which that paper was based. An increasingly prominent theme in today's research community is that preservation of the data is perhaps at least as important as preservation of the output. Our program will focus on the current issues and trends in creating, retaining, and providing access to non-textual information.

The STS Research Committee will select posters for the Washington, D.C. session through a blind review process on the basis of timeliness, thoughtfulness, and relevance to sci/tech librarianship.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: January 19, 2007. A brief description of the poster (250 words or less) should be submitted via e-mail to Sarah Jeong, Co-Chair of the STS Research Committee, jeongsh@wfu.edu. Be sure to include your name, institution, phone, fax, e-mail address, and poster title.
