Skills for successful freshmen

May 6, 2003 by

A new booklet aimed at highschools, “Understanding University Success”, has been prepared by a group of research universities and the Pew Charitable Trusts. The booklet presents what college freshmen need to know to succeed academically in various fields. If you look at the Natural Sciences chapter of the booklet (which include Physics and Chemistry), you will some mentions of information litteracy skills, but no obvious ones in the Mathematics chapter. Does that mean that freshmen are not expected to have info litteracy skills (but are expected to develop them in university, hopefully), or that these are just not that important for scientists?
