New open-access journal coming

May 9, 2003 by

(This is not totally engineering-physical science, but heck. Other titles will be coming) The Public Library of Science announced the lauch in October 2003 of PLoS Biology.

The PLoS is a nonprofit scientific publishing venture that will make the full contents freely available for anyone to read, distribute, or use for their own research. PLoS Medecine is in the works for mid-2004. After those are established, the PLoS plans to expand into other fields (e.g., PLoS Chemistry and PLoS Computer Science) and launch field-specific journals (e.g., PLoS Genetics or PLoS Oncology).
